ShakeAlert® Ready CERT

Bring Earthquake Early Warning to Your CERT Program

ShakeAlert Ready CERT helps Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) programs incorporate ShakeAlert® Earthquake Early Warning education into their trainings.

The ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning System can provide seconds of warning before shaking begins at your location. Those seconds allow people to Drop, Cover, and Hold On and take other protective actions that can reduce injuries and improve safety.

By becoming ShakeAlert Ready, your CERT program helps:

  • Strengthen local earthquake preparedness
  • Support life-saving protective actions
  • Expand awareness of earthquake early warning technology in your community

The Instructor Guide and Participant Manual support both training options, while the slide decks correspond to the selected course length.

As the ShakeAlert Ready CERT program grows, additional materials may be added to the toolkit to support CERT instructors and participants.

New to ShakeAlert?

The ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning System, managed by the U.S. Geological Survey, detects significant earthquakes so quickly that alerts can reach many people before strong shaking arrives. ShakeAlert is currently operating in California, Oregon, and Washington.

ShakeAlert-powered alerts can provide seconds of warning before strong shaking, giving you and your community time to take protective actions like Drop, Cover and Hold On.
